Port Blair, Oct 29: Mr. Ajoy Bairagi, State President, Bharatiya Janata Party, Andaman and Nicobar Islands in a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman District has requested them to consider relaxations for people living in various containment zones in North and Middle Andaman District.
Mr. Ajoy Bairagi has mentioned to the Lt. Governor, that our country has been seeing reduction in COVID-19 cases but due to sudden spike in cases in the North and Middle Andaman District, Containment Zones were notified and brought into force. Further he informed the dignitaries that the general public are facing a lot of difficulties because of the wider and large containment zones and has suggested that the effected building or only a small area be declared as containment zone in line with the guidelines of the Govt. of India which has suggested to convert the containment zones from macro to micro.
Mr. Ajoy Bairagi further requested the authorities to consider reducing the quarantine period from the current 14 days to 7 days for secondary contact cases with advise for self isolation and observation as 80-85% of such cases belong to economically weaker section of the society and they are facing a lot of difficulties as their livelihood is getting affected because of the long quarantine period. He especially mentioned the economically weaker fishermen, vegetable vendors and farmers. Highlighting the problems of these economically weaker sections of the society Mr. Ajoy Bairagi explained that the farmers especially the paddy growers have already suffered drastically because of the pandemic and the lockdown, now because their area has been declared as containment zones they are not able to visit their farms or sell their agricultural produce, Mr. Ajoy Bairagi requested that considering their problems relaxation may be given to them.
Mr. Ajoy Bairagi further mentioned that the people residing in Diglipur Tehsil, Mayabunder Tehsil, Rangat Tehsil, Uttara and Baratang are facing a lot of difficulties. He further mentions that the general public is well aware of the two golden principles of ‘Do Gaz Ki Doori’ and ‘Mask hain Zaroori’ and they are following it in letter and spirit.
Mr. Ajoy Bairagi further committed that he would spread the message of COVID-19 responsible behaviour in all ways he can and requested the Lt. Governor and the Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman to consider giving relaxations to people of North and Middle Andaman District who are currently residing in containment zones.
