Port Blair, Oct 21: The Police Flag Day Parade of Andaman & Nicobar Police was held at Parade Ground, Police Lines on 21/10/2020 in the memory of the police personnel who were martyred during the past one year while serving in their respective forces. Shri Dependra Pathak, IPS, Director General of Police, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, along with the officers and personnel of Andaman & Nicobar Police, paid homage to the brave souls by placing wreaths & flowers at the “Shaheed Smarak.”
21st October is observed as Police Flag Day & Police Flag Day Parade is held in all police units across India to pay homage to the 10 policemen, who were killed in Laddakh in the faceoff with the Chinese army in 1959 and all other police personnel who have laid down their lives in the service of the nation.
Since 1947, more than 35000 brave policemen have made supreme sacrifice while protecting the nation and its citizen from crime, terrorism and insurgency. A total of 264 police personnel were martyred this year. Their names were read out by DGP, A&N Islands to acknowledge their sacrifice and paid obeisance by observing two minute silence.
10 days long commemorative events are being held by A&N Police from October 21-31 to highlight the contribution of martyr’s towards upholding the unity & integrity of our nation. The commemorative events began with tree plantation at Police Lines by the Worthy Director General of Police, A&N Islands, Shri Dependra Pathak, IPS. Various events like, skits on different social issues, Fire Safety awareness programmes, Police Brass & Pipe Band show, awareness–cum-sensitization programmes, tree plantation, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan etc., have been planned to be organized at all police establishments and public places for the following 10 days.
