Port Blair, Oct 12: The Right to Information Act was implemented on 12th October 2005. This Act is the strongest of legal provisions to protect the interest of the citizens, ensure check on corruption and bring transparent governance.
While there was no program by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration to mark the day, the one and only civil society organisation “Civil Rights Protection Manch”, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Port Blair organized a seminar on the occasion at TSG Emrald, Port Blair.
Mr. TN Krishnamurthy, Chief Engineer, ALHW was the Chief Guest-cum-Chief Resource Person and Mr Mohd Jadwet was the Guest of Honour. While Mr. Govind Ram, President, Civil Rights Protection Manch presented keynote address, Mr. Krishnamurthy elaborately explained the provisions and importance of RTI. Speaking on the occasion Mr. Mohd Jadwet was of the opinion that in order to make things transparent in public interest, the private sector should also apply on itself the RTI Act or something similar to it.
Mr. Basudev Dass, Vice President, CRPM welcomed the participants and Mr. Som Naidu, Joint Secretary, CRPM proposed vote of thanks. The seminar was anchored by Ms Manisha Kaur.
