Port Blair, Oct 09: Zero mobile network in remote Islands like Katchal, Teressa and Chowra is making life difficult for the local residents as well as government servants posted there.
According to reports, situation is so bad that in Katchal Island one has to travel nearly 3 km to from Mill Dera area to Vikas Nagar area to receive week signals of a mobile tower of Kapanga region, to talk to people over mobile phone. Nearly 300 Government servants posted in Katchal Island are worst hit. According to Islanders since 21st September 2020 there is no mobile network in most of the areas of Katchal Island.
Similarly, since evening 05:00 PM of 7th October there is no communication of Teressa Island with outside world as in Teressa Island too there is no mobile network. Similar is the condition in Chowra Island.
During the time of pandemic communication is the key for the safety of Islanders and hence the Administration must ask BSNL to work extra hard to keep all mobile towers active 24X7, especially in remote Islands.
