Port Blair, Oct 07: In a major drug haul, a high level team of South Andaman Police unit, today seized nearly 3 KG of Methamphetamine from one resident of R K Pur village in Little Andaman.
According to reports the accused, Mr. Suken Halder and one more person has been arrested in this regard.
Sources said that a team of South Andaman Police consisting of ASP, South Andaman and SHO Bambooflat reportedly reached Little Andaman to solve the case and at Little Andaman the seizure was made with the police team of PS Hut Bay.
Although officials confirmation is still awaited but sources told Andaman Sheekha that this is perhaps one of the biggest hauls of Methamphetamine by police in Andamans.
Earlier on September 29,2020, the Bambooflat Police Station seized 3.30 KG and on 09, September 2020, the Chatham Police Station had seized 990 gms of ‘Methamphetamine’ illicit drug from drug peddlers and arrested them.
In March 2020, the Central Crime Station unit of Andaman and Nicobar Police had arrested three cops, who were allegedly trying to sell highly addictive ‘Methamphetamine’ drugs at Phoenix Bay area of Port Blair.
According to reports in all these cases the accused had obtained these drugs from some friend in Car Nicobar Island of Nicobar District, where these drug packets had washed ashore, across the beaches of Mus to Malacca villages, in the month of January 2020 from unknown source.
Methamphetamine is a powerful, highly addictive stimulant that affects the central nervous system. Also known as meth, blue, ice, and crystal, among many other terms, it takes the form of a white, odorless, bitter-tasting crystalline powder that easily dissolves in water or alcohol.
According to reports in international media, Myanmar has become the world’s biggest meth producer and these packets might have reached Car Nicobar Shores from some drug running vessels of Myanmar.
