Port Blair, Sept 11: A major fire broke out at Prothrapur Private Timber Mill on Wednesday night, which soon became out of control. As soon as the matter was communicated to the A & N Fire Services, nearly eight fire tenders from Garacharma, Haddo, Marine and Head Quarter Fire Units reached the spot and they started fire-fighting. As the fire took dangerous shape within hours, it took around 18 hours for the Fire Service Officer and Jawans to bring the fire under total control.
As per reports many residents of the area also came forward to help the Fire Service team but most notable contribution was from the owner and staffs of MSS Water Suppliers, who worked tirelessly throughout the night to provide continuous water supply to the Fire Brigade team.
As per reports the owner of the MSS Water Supplier, called all the drivers back to duty and used all available water tankers to bring water from different sources for the fire fighting because of which Fire Brigade team could easily get non-stop supply of water to douse the fire.
It is reported that tankers of MSS Water Supplier made around 20 to 25 trips and brought nearly 10000 litres of water in each trip, which helped in fighting the fire to a great extent.
This fire fighting incident was an example of combined efforts of Fire Services, A & N Police (PS Pahargaon) and public, especially the owner and the drivers of MSS Water Suppliers emerged as heroes, after this incident.
Meanwhile, the ward councillor of the area Mr Sanjay Meshak has also appreciated MSS water suppliers and Fire Service team for their tremendous contributions in Fighting Fire and saving property worth several crores.
Meanwhile some people of the area alleged that some of the officers who visited the area to see the devastation caused by fire did not even visit nearby buildings which also suffered heavy losses. In some nearby houses the AC units were destroyed while in some other houses suffered partial damages due to heat and flames. Hope that the Administration will access the losses of other public to and provide them some relief.
