Port Blair, Sept 25: Altogether 189 bottles of IMFL/Wine/Beers were recovered from El-Darado Bar & Restaurants Havelock on 23/09/12 for violating the dry-day declared in connection with Panchayat By-elections held on 23/9/12 at Havelock. In this connection the DC/South Andaman had declared dry-day for September 23rd and 25th 2012.
To ensure free and fair election and to maintain law & order, adequate police arrangements were made. On the same day evening at 1910 hrs, Sub-Inspector Abita Bachan, SHO PS Havelock, SI Mithun Kirtonia, HC/Vjay Shanker, PC/Sharma & PC/Hanifa while on mobile patrolling in the Havelock area and passing beside the EI-Derado Bar and Restaurant noticed a crowd in and around the said bar.
On suspicion, the Police party immediately raided the aforesaid Bar. Seeing the Police party, the public fled away from there. However, the manager of the Bar was caught. On further checking, IMFL bottles of various brands were found displayed at the bar counter. Altogether 189 bottles of IMFL including wine/beers and cash Rs. 2000/- have been recovered from EI-Darado Bar.
For violation of the condition contained in the Bar license issued to the aforesaid bar and violation of the direction (dry-day) of the authority, the manager of the said bar Sudhansu Das S/o B.K. Das is arrested on the spot and a case crime no. 39/12 under Excise Regulation has been registered upon him at PS Havelock. The above operation was carried out under the supervision of Mr. B. Saigal, Dy. Superintendent of Police, Havelock Sub-Division.
“The general public is highly solicited to pass on any such information to the local police on following telephone Nos. 9434289982, 282253 and 232100. The identity of the informer will be kept secret,” a release from Police Department said here today.
