Port Blair, Sept 25: From 20th September to 25th September, 2012 Andaman & Nicobar AIDS Control Society (ANACS) organised Orientation & Capacity Building Workshop for the formation of 2nd Phase- Red Ribbon Club at Industrial Training Institute, Dollygunj, S/Andaman, District Institute of Education & Training, Garacharma, S/Andaman, Jawahar Lall Nehru Rakeeya Maha Vidyalaya, Port Blair and Tagore Government College of Education (B.Ed), Port Blair.
The Red Ribbon Club (RRC) programme is a voluntary, on-campus intervention, aimed at heightening the risk perception and preventing HIV among youth. The purpose of the programme is to put together the knowledge of students and make them advocate on awareness, prevention and control of HIV/AIDS.
The workshop is an initiative for the formation of 2nd Phase -Red Ribbon Club (RRC) at the above four institutions. RRC is a voluntary on campus intervention programme for students in Education Institution which aims at harnessing the potential of the youth by equipping them with correct information on HIV/AIDS Prevention, Care, Support and Treatment.
The programme was conducted under the supervision and leadership of Shri. Rakesh Bali, Project Director, A & N AIDS Control Society.
Mr. Girish Kumar, Consultant (CSM), ANACS elaborated the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS. Further, he also explained on aims, process, objectives, roles of Red Ribbon Club, Youth Scenario on HIV/AIDS and Rational behind focusing Youth. Mr. B L Vivek Thakur, Assistant Director (PDC), ANACS explain on condom promotion and general criteria on documentation and blood Donation.
Totally, 343 students of above four institutions were attended with NSS officers and faculty members.
