Port Blair, August 07: Alleged poor preparedness of the Andaman and Nicobar administration to fight back COVID-19 has been highlighted to the Prime Minister’s Office by the Zilla Parishad Member of Little Andaman, Mr. Vasudevan Nair today.
In an online complaint registered to the PMO Grievance desk, Mr. Vasudevan Nair stated that the current situation of Andaman and Nicobar Islands is deteriorating day by day as the number of Corona Patients is increasing drastically.
Mr. Nair stated that the only tertiary hospital of AN Islands, GB Pant Hospital is lacking beds, doctors, cleaners, and other paramedical staff.
“The dead bodies succumbed due to COVID-19 are simply handed over to the family members without following any Standard Operating Procedures,” Mr. Nair alleged.
Further mentioning the drawbacks of his jurisdiction, Mr. Nair stated that these are some Corona patients in Little Andaman but to review the patients the PHCs in the Island do not even have test kits which includes PPE kits and other life-saving drugs.
“Shortage of oxygen cylinders in the PHC has also added to the misery,” Mr. Nair stated.
Mr. Nair further informed the PMO that the Little Andaman Islands are also inhabited by the Aboriginal tribe (Ongi) and they still live as per their existing living style. He requested the PM to intervene to solve the issues on public interest.
