Port Blair, July 23: Although rumours about the official launch of ‘Optical Fiber Cable’ on the upcoming Independence Day has spread like wildfire among the Islanders, the Chief General Manager of A & N BSNL Circle today clarified that confirmation from the PMO on the official launch of the OFC is still awaited.
“Absolutely no indication from the PMO yet came in this regard and we cannot say anything as of now, I called up in the PM Office, Delhi but nothing has been assured, and hence, I cannot say anything,” said the CGM BSNL while talking to Andaman Sheekha over the phone.
However, aforesaid rumours had brought big relief for the Islanders, as they were expecting that once the OFC is officially launched and the new tariffs will be declared, they can change their plans according to their usage and receive an affordable bill.
Currently, Islanders, who use broadband services of BSNL are paying a huge sum of money every month for India’s most expensive broadband tariff. Many say that if new tariffs are not declared soon, they will be forced to discontinue the services. Others are waiting for launch of Jio Broadband Services in Andaman after with they say, they will say good bye to BSNL broadband forever.
However, even this statement of CGM of BSNL should not be taken as final as in recent past he has given many contradictory statements in different media, leaving people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands completely confused.
