Kadamtala, July 17: In yet another carelessness act by NHIDCL contractor, land excavation works carried out by NHIDCL contractors at Kadamtala region of Middle Andaman has brought bag full of troubles for a farmer.
According to reports, in January, for constructing a culvert, the NHIDCL contractor excavated a land and covered a 1.5 meter wide drain with earth following which the water that used to flow from the drain, is now, coming inside the farming land. The flow of water inside the land since a few days has spoiled the entire vegetable cultivation of the farmer.
“I never said anything when the NHIDCL contractor covered a drain to construct a Culvert, as it was for the welfare of many, unfortunately, till now neither the culvert has been constructed nor they have rectified the irregularities made for the construction of the culvert,” said Mr. Dulal Bairagi, the owner of the land.
When no support was provided to the farmer despite writing a letter to the Assistant Commissioner of the region, Mr. Bairagi and his family members approached some Bulldozer owners to rectify the irregularities made in the area with their expenditure, sadly, they didn’t find any excavator for the job.
“We manage our livelihood from this farming land and such a destruction of my land due to the carelessness of NHIDCL contractor has caused huge financial loss to me, I request the administration to bring me out of this trouble at the earliest,” said Mr. Bairagi.
When Andaman Sheekha contacted the Tehsildar of the area, he said that a report has already been asked from the patwari of the area and once he receives the report, he will speak to the NHIDCL and sort out the issue of the farmer.
