Port Blair, Sep 21: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) organized corner meetings at various parts of Port Blair town yesterday to protest against the decision of the Congress (I)-led central government to increase diesel price and to limit the subsidized LPG cylinders to 6 in a year and to allow FDI in retail sector and other sectors.
Addressing the corner meetings, CPI (M) leaders criticized the central government for the sharp increase in the diesel price rise, which will cause price rise of all items including food items.
“The wrong economic policies of liberalization and privatization are being followed by the UPA government, whether the Congress (I) is running the government for corporate sector or the general public. Every decision being taken by the government is to benefit the corporate houses at the cost of middle class and poorer sections of the society,” CPI (M) leaders said during the meeting.
CPI (M) leaders demanded roll back of the diesel price rise and the decision to limit the subsidized LPG cylinders to six.
Mr. KG Das, Secretary and Dr Gouranga Majhi, Mr D. Lakshman Rao and Mr P. Banerjee, State Organising Committee Members of the CPI (M) addressed the meetings. Further the Party congratulated the business community to keep their shutter down during the protest against FDI in retail trade.
