Port Blair, July 10: Pathetic roads in the rural areas of the South Andaman region have become a constant sources of frustration for the residents of the region.
Despite the huge outcry by residents of rural areas of the South Andaman region against the horrible condition of the roads, it still remains majorly un-motorable and the conditions have now worsened after some heavy spells of rainfall.
Many people from the rural areas of Bambooflat alleged that due to the pathetic condition of the roads, their vehicles are suffering regular breakdown and the maintenance cost has gone up.
“Every other day some mechanical defects are arising in my vehicle and half the money I earn, I am spending for the maintenance of my vehicle,” said an owner of Private Van.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, Mr. Abhay Kumar, President , Living on the Edge, a resident of Wimberlygunj said that few contractors had started the road construction work before lockdown but currently even after the lockdown is over, the contractors have not resumed the work. “We want the authorities to instruct the ‘Road Construction Division’ of APWD to construct roads as per the standard of the NHIDCL at the earliest,” said a resident of Bambooflat.
