Port Blair, July 01: A Mazdoor of electricity department Mr. Simadhri today suffered electrocution while carrying out line repair work near Fire Service headquarter, Port Blair. The Mazdoor was struck on the electric pole and electricity was running over his body for a long time but no one nearby could muster courage to save the Mazdoor.
Later another regular Mazdoor of Electricity Department, Mr. J Madhav Rao from another site office (Shadipur) who was crossing the area stepped forward to save the man. Even when others were fearing to climb up the ladder and save Mr. Simadhri, Mr. J Madhav Rao showed exemplary courage to save life of Mr. Simadhri, even when he was not in duty.
“I can’t live with this burden if I don’t go and save him. No matter if I also suffer electrocution,” Mr. J Madhav Rao said nearby people before climbing up.
Later Mr. J Madhav Rao climbed up and brought Mr. Simadhri down with the help of few others, who later joined Mr. J Madhav Rao in this rescue work.
Mr. Simadhri, who survived the electrocution was later shifted to G B Pant Hospital. Sources said that the main lines were off during the repair but due to some leakage of electricity, Mr. Simadhri got electrocuted.
Many people present near the scene of accident have now demanded LG’s Commendation Certificate honour for Mr. J Madhav Rao.
