Port Blair, June 10: Mr. Subir Chander, Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman, in a letter addressed to the Chief General Manager, BSNL Andaman & Nicobar Islands has expressed shock over the excessive bills charged by the Bsnl, A & N Islands unit.
The Adhyaksh has received numerous complaints from the BSNL Broadband customers throughout the length and breadth of the Islands against the abnormally high bills charged by the BSNL every month.
He stated in the letter that the public has lamented that they had received bills to the tune Rs 50,000/- and more during the Lockdown period of April & May 2020.
Many such bills have surfaced on Social-Media platforms too wherein customers have uploaded their monthly bills of broadband connection to express their anguish.
Although the government has been exhorting to public to resort to online education for their children, yet there has been no feasible Internet connectivity for availing the services of online education.
He expressed his concern over the undue delay in initializing the High-Speed internet services using the undersea Optical Fibre Cable (OFC).
He opined that under the said circumstances overcharging of Broadband bills was quite unfortunate and Bsnl should therefore revise the bills with immediate effect and issue reasonable bills without any undue delay. The arbitrary and illogical charge against broadband bills needs to controlled and regulated.
It is high time the authorities take initiative to bridle the overcharging spree of Bsnl. The exorbitant rates charged from customers against broadband services needs to be checked immediately, he added.
