Port Blair, June 03: Andaman is COVID free as on date and there is no containment zone as of now in entire Andaman & Nicobar Island.
The South Andaman District Administration has issued order no.548, dated 31 May 2020 where provision are made for imposing penalty /fine on persons who violate the lockdown guidelines. The designated persons were authorized to impose and collect fines.
But now looking at open violation of social distancing norms in Bazaar, Ticketing Counters, Hospitals and everywhere else, it is being felt by many that some officials of crucial departments like, DSS, Transport, Hospital, Civil Supplies must be designated the power to impose challan on people who are violating social distancing norms. Good number of challans will send a clear message in society and people will start following such norms seriously.
Atleast in hospitals such steps must be taken.
Living On The Edge (LOTE), a leading NGO in Andaman today requested the administration through Andaman Sheekha newspaper that provision must be made wherein the Hospital Staffs may also be included in the designated person list to impose and collect the fines, on violation of lockdown guidelines, as there may be huge inflow of patients and their attainder in the various Healthcare facilities in the entire UT. The concerned MO i/c, and the Pharmacy i/c, may be suitably considered for any such provision.
