The flight flew back with these 180 stranded labourers at 3.50 PM from Port Blair for Kolkata.
As per sources a few more similar flights might be operated in coming days also by Jharkhand Government to evacuate rest stranded labourers, working in other Islands of this UT.
Earlier this month the Jharkhand Government had written letter to Union Home Ministry seeking clearance for bringing back Jharkhand’s stranded migrant workers from Andaman and Nicobar Islands in a chartered flight.
As per a rough estimate nearly 319 such labourers were stranded in Andaman since the first lockdown.
This is first such Chartered flight operated by any State Government to take back stranded labourers from Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Although there is no COVID19 cases in Andaman at present but according to Jharkhand Government recent statements these labourers were facing extreme financial hardships and are finding it difficult to meet the extra financial burden of boarding and lodging during the lockdown. They and their family members are going through mental agony.
