Port Blair, May 24: A team of Port Blair Municipal Council including the Chairman and some councilors today visited Dhanikhari Dam for inspection. During the visit they found that the level of water in the dam is nearly 8.5 mtrs less than what it was last year on this day.
The team found that the water level is so low that the authorities in Dhanikhari have to use a boat to collect water and then pump the water out.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, Mrs. Sheela Singh, Councillor of PBMC said that the situation is so worrisome that if it does not rain for another week, more curtailment of water can be done in city, which will be hugely problematic for public.
It seems instead of waiting for Rain God the Administration must think of some alternative plan to deal with this crisis situation very soon. Not only this long term plan must also be made for coming years as the water crisis become an annual affair in Andaman.
More details regarding water crisis and water management will be published soon by Andaman Sheekha in coming edition.
