Port Blair, Apr 24: Andaman and Nicobar Islands which was declared COVID19 free on 16 April by Media all over India, witnessed a sudden surge in COVID19 positive cases since 17 April 2020.
Since 17 April 2020, altogether 18 people have been tested COVID19 positive from various areas of South Andaman region. All 11 cases which were reported before 16 April 2020 have been tested negative now.
Therefore the total COVID19 cases in Andaman stands at 29, out of which 18 are active.
Meanwhile hundreds of people have been quarantined by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration in various hotels and localities after contact tracing of these 16 cases and more contact tracing for today’s seven cases are still going on.
“Total 16, all connected to Bambooflat area Family. Please people stay home. No casual meetings, giving meals in neighborhood, hiding of symptoms, roaming! Your life actually depends on it,” said Mr. Chetan Sanghi, the Chief Secretary of A & N Administration in a tweet today. Later at night he updated about two more cases via twitter.
