Port Blair, Sept 16: All the units and establishment of Coast Guard at A&N Region are celebrating Hindi Fortnight from 14 to 28 Sep 12. The inaugural function was held today in the Coast Guard Conference room with Inspector General VSR Murthy, President Tatrakshak Medal, Tatrakshak Medal Commander, Coast Guard Region (A&N) in chair. The event was inaugurated by the Regional Commander by lighting a traditional lamp.
Speaking on the occasion, the Commander appreciated the staff for their commendable performance in Hindi. It is relevant that during the year 2011-12 Town Official Language Implementation Committee (TOLIC) Port Blair has awarded Coast Guard Region (A&N) second prize for implementation of Official Language Policy among the Central Govt. organization functioning at Port Blair.
The Commander urged officers and all personnel of the Coast Guard to do maximum work in Hindi and earnestly try to achieve the target set for implementation of Official Language. On the occasion of Hindi Day, he also appealed to the officers and staff of Coast Guard including Coast Guard units at Campbell Bay, Diglipur and Hutbay to strive towards bringing Hindi in more and more use in day to day official work, and not limit this endeavor during the celebration of the Hindi fortnight.
As a part of Hindi Fortnight, various competitions viz. General Knowledge, Noting/Drafting, Essay, Translation and Handwriting etc. are being organized for the officers and staff. Prizes will be awarded to the winners of different competitions during the valedictory function to be held on 28 Sep 12.
