Port Blair, April 21: The social media is buzzing with various claims of starting high-speed internet in Andaman. Some fake news without any source, are also doing round that the high-speed internet has already been launched since 20 April 2020 but in reality the speed remain terribly slow.
Today Andaman Sheekha spoke to the Chief General Manager, Andaman and Nicobar BSNL Circle to find the facts so that Islanders get the right information from genuine source.
Talking to Andaman Sheekh the CGM said that until and unless the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, Andaman and Nicobar receives a green light from the Department of Telecom, the services of OFC can’t be extended.
While talking to Andaman Sheekha over the phone, the CGM BSNL also cleared that it will take 10 more days for the BSNL to extend the wired broadband and fiber services after the green light comes from the DoT.
According to the CGM BSNL, it will take a week more for the high-speed Mobile internet services.
When asked that that when he is expecting a green light from the Department of Telecom, he said that even yesterday he had a video conference with the DoT officials and he was expecting a green light today.
“The Ex-Member of Parliament, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray has also spoken to the Telecom Minister in this regard and I hope that with one-two days we will receive a green light,” said the CGM.
The CGM also added that they are letting no stones unturned to extend the facilities to the people of the Islands, “even the Chief Secretary, Andaman, and the Nicobar Islands have also spoken to the Deputy Secretary, Delhi in this regard,” said the CGM.
It’s indeed a great move for the islanders. Even during this hard times, BSNL and Administration are working hard to get the OFC based internet working for us.
Hoping, BSNL and Administration takes a note of the fact that the broadband data in the islands is still as per their subscribed plans. If BSNL makes the data for the Subscribers either unlimited or atleast double data for this lockdown, it would be great for all islanders.
