Port Blair, Apr 16: The Andaman and Nicobar Administration should immediately consider posting senior officers as full-fledged DRC in Kolkata and Chennai. The present crisis with the islanders in the mainland is on account of no full-fledged DRC in these stations, many believe.
Presently, the officials holding charge of DRC are very junior and hence can’t take immediate and bold decisions.
These are DANICS cadre posts and non cadre officers can’t hold these positions. Delhi presently has a senior DANICS officer as Joint Resident Commissioner, Kolkata used to have a Secretary level DANICS officer as Special Resident Commissioner and Chennai had a DANICS as DRC.
These posts were created keeping in view situations like these and the geographical location of the islands.
Many believe that if senior competent officers had been posted at Chennai and Kolkata the present situation would have managed in a far better manner.
“The MHA and the Administration should immediately post cadre officers to these stations,” said an Islander on the condition of anonymity.
