Port Blair, Apr 10: Good news is coming from far flung Andaman and Nicobar Islands, while rest of India is struggling with growing number of COVID19 cases, Andaman presently has only one COVID19 positive case.
Till now Andaman and Nicobar Islands reported only 11 COVID19 positive cases, out of which now 10 people have now been tested negative, which means Andaman presently has only one COVID19 active positive case, setting example for entire India.
All 11 cases of COVID19 in Andaman and Nicobar Islands are related directly or indirectly to Nizamuddin’s Tablighi Jamaat. First nine cases were those who attended Nizamuddin’s Tablighi Jamaat directly while the case number 10 is wife of one of the first nine COVID19 patients.
The case number 11, a young lady from had travelled with Nizamuddin’s Tablighi Jamaat attendees on the same plane to Andaman on 24 March 2020. The case number 11 was only detected positive on 8 April 2020.
Andaman and Nicobar Islands had started taking preventive measures against spread of COVID19 in Andaman since March 04,2020 and had closed all cinema halls as well as restricted movement of people since March 12, 2020, much before national lockdown announced by the Prime Minister of India.
As per details, all 11 cases entered Andaman on 24 March 2020, just one day before suspension of all flights to Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
“All 10 earlier positive cases are now negative after treatment. They will be shifted from hospital to institutional quarantine for two weeks,” the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Mr. Chetan Sanghi informed via social media post in twitter.
Till now Andaman and Nicobar Islands has sent 615 samples for COVID19 test out of which report of 574 has reached while results of rest 41 is still pending.
