Port Blair, April 9: Former State President, BJP and HMAC Member, Mr Vishal Jolly in a letter to the Lt Governor has urged for support to fishermen community during lockdown period. He said that to contain the spread of COVID-19, the Govt. of India has pronounced 21 days lockdown in the entire Country. The Administration of A&N Islands has extended relaxation to the farmers and vegetable vendors to open the shops by maintaining the social distance and preventive measures of sanitizing and usage of masks.
The timely action of Administration has given a great relief to the vegetable growers and vendors. But, one section of society, Fishermen Community who are also the hand to mouth dependent were ignored for giving permission to catch fish and its sale. The denial of permission to this sector which covers more than 5000 family’s livelihood as well as it brought a check in the edible habit of the Islanders on which they depend mostly.
He requested the Lt Governor to grant permission to the fishermen community for catching and sale of fish by observing standard protocol for prevention of COVID-19. The Fishermen communities are also depend on the daily catching and sale of fish, but, were not covered for providing free ration articles.
