Port Blair, April 08: The Chairman, JAC Auto Rickshaw, Mr. Santhosh Kumar has requested the District Commissioner, South Andaman to extend financial assistance and free ration to Auto Rickshaw drivers of Andaman and Nicobar Islands as it has been done in other states of India following the COVID-19 lockdown.
In a letter addressed to the DC, South Andaman, Mr. Santhosh stated that due to lockdown the Auto Rickshaw drivers have gone jobless and are struggling to manage their expenses.
“If the Andaman administration takes steps like other states to provide food through community kitchen in panchayat and Municipal wards, it will be of great help for the daily wage workers and the Auto Rickshaw drivers who are currently jobless,” Mr. Santhosh added.
Besides this, Mr. Santhosh further stated that being jobless for a while the Auto Rickshaw drivers are also unable to pay their loan and room rent and hence, some financial step to them will allow them to sustain until the COVID-19 disaster doesn’t end.
