Port Blair, April 07: Islanders burst out laughing after Administration’s instruction given to the teachers of Andaman and Nicobar Islands to teach the students with the help of electronic/ social media from home keeping in view the current lockdown following COVID-19 impact.
Social Media platforms like Facebook are receiving several comments from Islanders saying that the instruction is “Cruel joke” and “Joke of the Century” as the internet in Andaman doesn’t have sufficient speed for this purpose.
“There would have been some logic into it if the recently laid services of Optical Fibre Cable was extended for the Islanders,” said an Islander on the condition of anonymity.
Many also believe that some teachers in the Islands are not at all comfortable teaching students online as they were never trained in doing so.
However, talking to Andaman Sheekha, Mr. Subir Chander, Adhyaksh, South Andaman Zilla Parishad said that teaching electronically and through social media is currently not at all possible in the islands but he mooted administration to start classes using cable TV channels.
“There must be at least two hours classes for 10th and 12th students a day and some slots may also be brought up for the students of other classes and if anybody has a doubt they must be facilitated with online phone numbers of teachers, so that, they can ask their doubts if any,” Mr. Chander said.
He also added that it is highly necessary that the administration may come up with such a plan which is possible here in the islands at the earliest.
