Port Blair, Apr 07: Mr. Kuleeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament, A&N Islands has wrote a letter to the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration on 07.04.2020 informing him that those Islanders on return from mainland after completion of medical treatment and domestic works etc. were kept under 14 days quarantine at different locations as preventive measures in view of COVID -19.
The persons those who have completed their 14 days of institutional quarantine of negative cases have been free from quarantine as of now as declared by the Nodal officer (COVIDD-19), Administration on 4th April, 2020 and few persons are also likely to be free from quarantine shortly.
He pointed out that out of total persons quarantine, most of the persona are belongs to inter Islands and due to non availability of transportation facilities to their respective residential places, they are still standard in Port Blair and facing financial hardships for their stay in Port Blair till lifting of lockdown.
As such, he suggested that necessary arrangements of transportation for the persons who have been released from quarantine to deport their respective place of residences in inter Islands may be arranged by the Administration on free of cost.
However, in case of any difficulties to send them to their residential places, accommodation and free food for the persons may be arranged by the Administration till lifting of lockdown whichever is possible.
Besides this, the Member of Parliament Mr. Sharma also taken up the another issue with the Lt. Governor, A&N Islands on 06.04.2020 informing him that due to nationwide lockdown, a large number of Islanders stranded at different places in mainland are facing tremendous difficulties of financial crisis due to exhaust of money available with them who need financial assistance to meet the routine essential expenses.
Hence, he requested the Lt. Governor to consider for extending financial assistance of Rs.1000/- to our Islanders who have stranded at different places in mainland through DBT provided that the beneficiary should have Aadhar Card/Islander Card and Bank account in A&N Islands. In this regard, he suggested to create a separate Mobile App exclusively for this purpose in the way to which Government of Bihar has introduced for providing financial assistance to their state origins standard in other States.
