Port Blair, Apr 03: A family of five members was quarantined by Health Department nearly two weeks back. As the family was in quarantine, no one in the family is allowed to go out to bring any essential commodities. The family members, which consists of two students and one elderly lady anyhow managed nearly 11 days with whatever essential commodities they had but when they ran out of stock, they started calling the area Pradhan of Garacharma and also the DC office for help.
The Pradhan after repeated reassurances of sending help did not send any help while DC officials although promised to contact back did not contact back with any kind of supplies for two days.
As a result, since last two days the family skipped breakfast and prepared only lunch and dinner with rice and pulses.
The quarantine period is about to end on 5th April morning for the family while the family had food items for only till 3rd April night. Finally when the matter was communicated to the PS Pahargaon on 3rd April night by concerned citizens, the SHO PS Pahargaon Inspector Mahesh Yadav under the Direction of SDPO Sandhya Swami immediately send a constable, Mr. Amit to the family with essential food items needed for two days.
The quarantined family has now finally breathed a sigh of relief as they can provide food for the elderly lady in the family and two children atleast for two more days.
The quick action of PS Pahargaon team has been highly lauded by the family members.
This incident has however made one thing clear that the control rooms set up by the Administration are not working efficiently for the welfare of people in need. Andaman Sheekha has already complained about inefficiency of these control rooms in recent past with top officials.
