Port Blair, Mar 31:The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has taken up the following issues with the Administration on 31.03.2020 for remedial action in the welfare of the people of the Islands in the present lockdown situation due to COVID-19.
The MP pointed out that the people of Katchal Islands have informed that they are facing acute shortage of essential items specially Rice, Atta, Oil, etc and they have only two days of ration items left. He requested the Administration to make arrangements of sending these items through a cargo ship at the earliest and in the mean time sending the ration items from nearby Islands of Katchal as short term arrangement.
He also demanded that to keep the people of these Islands engaged in home, Administration should provide all TV channels free of cost till 21 days of Lock down.
“Atta to be supplied in the ration card because many people prefer to eat atta. And if Atta is not provided, wheat may be provided to general public in place of atta,” the MP pointed out.
He added that after the Administration relaxing the lockdown, it is observed that the petrol pumps are overcrowded. To maintain social distancing, more number of Police to be deployed at all Petrol Pumps.
“The Anganwadi workers, helpers and Asha workers who are carrying out Community Survey for detecting suspected cases of COVID-19 infection are to be provided with face mask, sanitizer and gloves for their safety. The students and other persons of Inter-Island to be provided food and shelter at different lodges, Guest Houses, Hotels, since they don’t have any money and the present place of stay of their relative is also facing hardship for ration and water,” the MP pointed out.
