Great Nicobar, March 30: While in the entire country the import-export has been stopped following the COVID-19 impact, here in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands rules seem to be implemented differently.
As per details, a cargo ship ‘Per Tug Danam 79’ from Mayasia arrived near Campbell Bay a few days back, which has triggered a panic among local residents of Great Nicobar. Now PRI members of Great Nicobar allege that they have information that the ship might berth at Campbell Bay tomorrow, which they oppose.
“Malaysia is highly affected by COVID-19 and if the crews of the cargo vessel will mingle with the laborers during the time of unloading, it can be dangerous, we are also not prepared to handle this delivery as we do not have masks available in the market, neither any other safety precautions we have, to fight COVID- 19 virus,” said Mr. Gagandeep Singh Grewal the UP- Adhyaksh, SAZP.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, Mr. Gagandeep further stated that if the ship is berths at the jetty tomorrow, being a responsible public representative of the area, he and few PRIs will stage a protest to save the residents without creating a gathering of the public, as the lockdown is on. No official comments could be obtained till now from authorities.
