Port Blair, Mar 30: A & N Islands Private Practicing Doctors Association strongly condemn the police excesses on the on-duty Andaman & Nicobar island’s health workers’ of COVID 19 of Directorate of Health Services staff last night i e. 29/3/2020.
Those workers were involved in transporting corona suspects to places of isolation but unfortunately they were beaten up by the DYSP, South Andaman and the same Dy SP also misbehaved with Dr Avijit Roy, Nodal officer of COVID 19 when he intervened.
The staffs who were engaged in transporting Corona suspects included drivers, paramedics & doctors. When they were busy on their assigned job suddenly DySP came from nowhere and started beating them unprovoked without bothering to verify their identities.
Even health care professionals were not spared. As such everyone was already stressed out and anxious due to the current pandemic situation. Under such stressful circumstances how can a law and order personal behave in such a lawless manner? And needless to say that Doctors, by default, are highly responsible citizens.
Therefore while dealing with them the least that a police personnel is expected to display is the minimum courtesy they deserve. Therefore the kind of highhandedness on the part of the Dy SP is not only demoralizing and exasperating but highly condemnable too.
At a time when none other than the Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Damodar Modi is profoundly praising the doctors and paramedics for their dedicated and selfless services towards the cause of humanity the display of arrogance by law-enforcing authority is proving just the contrary.
The President of A & N Islands Private Practicing Doctors association has therefore taken the matter with the seriousness that this situation demands. Hence, it is strongly urged that the police department should immediately take cognizance of this misdemeanor and therefore initiate appropriate disciplinary action against this errant officer. And this Association also demands an assurance that no such incident will ever happen in future, failing which this association will not hesitate to file a case in the appropriate court of law for necessary redressal, a communication from the President of A & N Islands Private Practicing Doctors association, Dr.Rohindra Lal said here today.
