Port Blair, Jan 30: The Indian Cost Guard is celebrating CG Week to commemorate 44th raising day of Indian Coast Guard and has been conducting various events/activities across the Isles. As part of CG Week celebrations, Coast Guard Station Kamorta organized series of events over the last one week. The events included 5 Km walkathon on 24 Jan 20 with participation of all local Coastal Security stake holders including local Police, Police Marine Force (PMF) and personnel from Forest department. The event was targeted to make the local populace aware of the role of the Coast Guard in making the islands safe and secure. A total of 45 participants from various departments participated in the walkathon.
In another event, a Yoga workshop was organized at Community Health Centre, Kamorta in coordination with Department of Ayush on 27 Jan 20 to promote health and wellness. The Yoga/health activity was attended by CG personnel at Kamorta, Naval personnel from INS Kardip, other Government agencies and local populace. The workshop was conducted by the Yoga instructor from Department of Ayush and lasted more than an hour, was well received by all participants.
The CG Station Kamorta also conducted a special Community Interaction Programme at Vikas Nagar village on 28 Jan 20. During the event, a friendly volleyball match was organized between CG personnel and villagers followed by distribution of sweets to the villagers by CG personnel as part of CG Week celebrations. The event was attended by personnel from Forest, Fisheries and local Police.
In addition, Indian Coast Guard Ship C-422 took an initiative to promote the role of Indian Coast Guard among the younger generation by conducting a drawing and painting competition at Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS) at Gol Tekri on 28 Jan 20. The competition, with a theme on the role of Coast Guard in saving lives and anti-poaching operations, was able to imprint a positive image of the service among the school children of Kamorta. Almost 50 school children participated in the event.
