Port Blair, Jan 19: On the occasion of 43RD Coast Guard Raising Day and under the aegis of “Fit India Movement” and Swatchh Bharat Abhiyan” an initiative by the Government of India, Headquarters Coast Guard Region (A&N) organised a walkathon from the Coast Guard premises to the Marina Park followed by Cleanup on the Marina Beach. An active participation was on the display by the Coast Guard fraternity including children and women. As Part of the event a slogan writing competition was held highlighting the motto of the event i.e. “Clean Environment Green Environment”. Mrs Mohita Pathak President Tatrakshika, (A&N) distributed prizes for the best slogans. The aim of the event was to create awareness about reducing the use of single use plastic and utilization of biodegradable materials in the day to day activities. As part of the event plogging was done to keep the city clean and to enlighten the local populace about the importance of the clean environment. Approximately 400 volunteers from the CG fraternity participated in the cleanup of the Marina beach highlighting use of jute bags for the collection of the garbage. Post cleanup, garbage was dumped with the participation of Port Blair Municipal Corporation (PBMC). A communique received from PRO Coast Guard. ”Vayam raksham – we protect”.
