Port Blair, Dec 30: A “Beach Cleaning Drive” was jointly organized by Nai Manzil (NGO), Sahara (NGO) and All India People’s Welfare Association (AIPWA) at Kurma Dera Beach under Collinpur Gram Panchayat on 28thDecember 2019 (Saturday) involving the students and staffs of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Chouldhari to promote Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, a pet project of our Honourable Prime Minister.
Shri Subir Chander, Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad- South Andaman inaugurated the Cleanliness Drive by distributing hand gloves to the participating students and volunteers and actively partook in the drive leading from the front. Shri Mahadev Majhi, Pradhan Gram Panchayat along with other PRI members also extended their cordial support facilitating the drive.
In the meantime volunteers were divided into groups and engaged for cleaning the beach in a systematic manner under the guidance of P. Abdul Basheer of Nai Manzil, Jayakumar and A. Shareef of AIPWA and of Sahara (NGO). The students and staffs of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya showed great enthusiasm in the drive and collected a huge pile of garbage from the beach under the guidance of Principal, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, which was appreciated by one and all.
The SHO of Ograbraj Police station had made foolproof arrangements with regard to law and order by deploying sufficient police staff (Male & Female) to provide safety to the school students in particular and the volunteers in general.
The following people stood out with their active presence throughout the drive; Shri Vinit Kumar Maurya, Shri Biswajeet, Shri Simson, Shri Jitendar, Shri A.Gafoor, Smt. Gayatri, Shri Azeem, Shri Sajid and Shri Kodanda Rao. Food was served to the participants by the NGOs and the “Beach Cleaning Drive” concluded by 4pm.
