Mayabunder, Dec 05: On the occasion of world soil day, ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, CIARI, Nimbudera organized seminar cum meeting on the theme “Stop Soil Erosion Save Our Future” on 5th December 2019 at Community hall , Dharmapur, Mayabunder. The programme commenced in presence of Shri. A.T. Rao, Member Zilla Parishad, N & M Andaman; Shri. B.Vijayan Nair, Samiti Member, Shivapuram Panchayat, Shri.Prabhakaran Nair, Sarpanch ,Shivapuram Panchayat, Shri.Pankaj Samadder, and Shri K.Duryodhan Rao, ,Dept. of Agriculture , PRI Members and farmers.
At the outset Dr. B. L. Kasinath, Sr. Scientist and Head, KVK welcomed the Chief Guest, guests and participants and highlighted the details of programme and explained about the significance of World Soil Day.
In the inaugural session, Shri. A.T. Rao discussed the problem faced by the farmers in the region of N & M Andaman and urged the farmers to take up the new schemes introduced by Govt. of India for developing a strong nation. Shri. B. Vijayan Nair highlighted the importance of soil fertility for sustainable agriculture productivity. Shri. Prabhakaran Nair requested the farmers to adopt traditional agricultural practices for healthy living. In the technical session, Dr. B. L. Kasinath highlighted the causes for soil loss and measures that need to be taken to prevent the soil erosion and methods of soil fertility maintenance.
Shri. Pankaj Samadder and Shri K.Duryodhan Rao discussed in detail regarding the government schemes related to soil and water conservation and organic farming. Dr. Pooja Kapoor, SMS, Home Sc, KVK, N & M Andaman discussed about Organic manure preparation and vermi composting and also motivated women to take up vermi composting as an enterprise. Shri Tanmay Paul, Farm Manager, KVK, N & M Andaman discussed about the need to maintain soil fertility and explained the importance of Soil Health Cards. Later on, documentary films on “Soil conservation” and “organic farming” were also showcased to the farmers by Shri Prasant Pradhan, Computer Assistant (Programmer).In addition to this on the eve of constitutional yearly programme a talk/awareness about citizen duties and constitutional rights were also delivered to the gathering.
A total of fifty two farmers were participated and benefitted from the programme. This programme was conducted under the supervision and guidance of Dr. B. L. Kasinath, Sr. Scientist and Head, KVK, Nimbudera and Dr.B. Gangaiah, Director, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair.
