I am happy to learn that the Tourism Department will be celebrating World Tourism Day in these Islands on 27th September, 2019 along with rest of the country. Tourism has been identified as a thrust area by A & N Administration for employment generation, livelihood and economic development of these Islands. This year’s theme is “Tourism and Jobs: A better future for all”. Tourism can serve as an engine of growth for our Islands, where other manufacturing sector opportunities might be limited. Hence A & N Administration is striving to develop Tourism in a sustainable way, so that coming generations can also reap the benefit through jobs and entrepreneurship. Under the aegis of Islands Development Agency and with Niti Aayog support, some mega tourism projects are expected to be launched soon.As islanders, we are proud of our social bondage, secular credentials and harmonious society. These Islands are indeed an oasis of peace, tranquility and unparalleled natural beauty. By preserving these qualities, we can attract tourists from all over the world, who in turn, will become ambassadors on behalf of these Islands. Tourists are our most important development partners.I take this opportunity to greet the Islanders as well as tourists and express the hope that Tourism will achieve greater heights in the coming years and our Islands will emerge as one of the most sought-after eco-friendly tourist destinations in the world.
