Port Blair, Sept 24: The Youth Wing of Andaman Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ACCI) organized ‘Bird Watching Programme’ on 24th September, 2019 in connection with the Celebration of “World Tourism Day 2019” in association with the Department of Tourism, Forest Department and Andaman Avians Club.
JNRM and ANCOL College Students were taken to Chidiyatapu Biological Park under the Bird Watching Tour on the eve of “World Tourism Day 2019”. Students were explained about the importance of bird watching and the necessity to create awareness in wildlife conservation and environmental stewardship. Pest control, public health, seed dispersal, eco-tourism, environmental monitoring are some of the ways birds benefit humans. Students were provided with binoculars so that they can view the birds very closely and understand and identify the birds.
All students were very much enthusiastic and very keen to know more about the birds which can keep them very close to environment and the necessity to protect birds. Altogether 50 participants including 35 students and 2 lecturers from JNRM attended the Bird Watching Programme.
Around 30 species were spotted and most of them were endemic to Andaman. Light refreshments were also provided to all the participants. This event was coordinated by Shri P. Divya Prasad, Executive Member, Shri Arun Singh, Secretary and other Members of Youth Wing of ACCI along with the volunteers of Andaman Avians Club.
