Port Blair, Sept 23: Committed to the Swachh Bharat Mission of the Union Government, the National Highway and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) brought out a campaign Swachhata Hi Seva. As a part of observance of 150th Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi a cleanliness drive started on Saturday morning Ferrargunj to Jirgatang NH 45 to 59 stretch.
Tonnes of plastic bottles were collected from the road and near residential areas. NHIDCL going to usethis plastic to make road. They also stopped vehicles who moved on roads and spread awareness among them to maintain cleanliness.
The National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL), Port Blair GM Mr. Manoj Kumar Verma said Swachhata hi seva campaign started on 11 September and will continue till 27th October. “NHIDCL will be doing sticker banner campaign, we will put stickers on boats, busses, trucks and all those places where the public frequents more. We require huge quantity of plastics, around 2 tonnes of plastics for making one km road, we collect all the plastics and use on road, for this purpose road becomes more durable,” he said.
