Port Blair, Sept 19: Acting on a tip-off, the Forest officials of Tushnabad Range carried out a search operation in the Revenue area of Muslim Basti, Ograbraj and seized 17 pieces (0.772 cbm.) of padauk hand sawn timber.
The team also seized a 22” power chain saw and other tools used for commissioning the offence. However, no offenders were found on the spot. A case has been registered under relevant sections of Indian Forest Act, 1927 and is under investigation. The operation was carried out by Mr. Mohd. Shabir, Forester, Mr. Anand Prakash Tirkey, Head Forest Guard, Mr. E.M.Mohd. Haneefa, Forest Guard and other workers under the close supervision of Mr. Jainal Abdin, Range Officer, Tushnabad.
In another search operation, the Forest Officials of Mobile Squad, Wimberlygunj detected 70 pieces of Toungpienne timber measuring around 1.978 cbm. kept inside forest area adjacent to Kadakachang village on 17.09.2019. The offenders escaped in the forest taking advantage of heavy rainfall. The sawn timber and two Nos. pit saws were immediately seized under the provisions of Indian Forest Act, 1927 and a case has been booked. The search operation was carried out by Mr. Uttam Kumar Mistry, Forest Guard, Mr. Keshabananda Ganguly, Forest Guard and other workers under the close supervision of Mr. Panchanam Halder, Range Officer, Mobile Squad.
