Port Blair, Sept 14: The National Skill Development Mission launched by the Government of India envisions skilling at speed and standards with focus on strengthening Institutional Training, Infrastructure, Convergence, Training of Trainers, Employment, Sustainable Livelihoods and Leveraging Public Infrastructure. The National Policy targets to skill and reskill about 400 million by 2022. It’s a huge challenge considering that the percentage of the formally trained youths in India are as low as 4.69 per cent of the total workforce compared to countries like Germany with 75%, Korea with 96%. Given that India has a huge and heterogeneous informal sector where skill training is generally carried out through individual learning, observation or a transfer of skills from a master craftsman, to give a formal recognition to skills. The outcomes of such initiatives will be seen in terms of growth in GDP, labor productivity, employment rate, earnings etc. The focus is on identifying skill gaps, changes in earnings and eradicating unemployment by formal trainings.
To steer this mission in Andaman, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra (PMKK) Andaman is contributing at its best. The Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra (PMKK) is an initiative of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. They are state-of-the-art, visible and aspirational model training centres that are set up in almost every district throughout the country to ensure coverage of all parliamentary constituencies. The PMKK initiative focuses on the creation of standardised infrastructure for delivery of skill development training which is equipped to run industry-driven courses of high quality with a focus on employability and to create an aspirational value for skill training. Mr. Sumir Jeet Narayan, Head PMKK Andaman, stated that the first batch of trainings are on the verge to complete and there are several trainees who are ready with trade related competencies and can be a potential employee for relevant job roles. He also added that the team is already in-talks with various business houses in Andamans to interview and hire them as per their business needs. The trainees were not only trained on trade specific technicalities but also job related soft skills which will supplement them in their job performance.
The registration for the next batch of training is going on and candidates who are interested to up-skill themselves in trades like customer relationship management, electrical and electronics, Home Appliances, and basics of civil works can walk-in at PMKK Andaman, RGT Road, Port Blair or call @ +91 9531822921 to enroll.
