Port Blair, Sept 05: Two day visit of Senior Officials of Export Inspection Council to A&N Islands from 3rd to 4th September, 2019 in connection with opening of Desk office and quality testing laboratory to facilitate direct export from the Islands concluded with site inspection and series of meetings with Department of Fisheries officials, Seafood exporters and other stakeholders. As part of the visit they identified some sites of fisheries Department which can be used for the construction of new built up space for Desk office and Laboratory. At the same time EIC requested administration to explore the possibilities of existing built-up space for setting up of their office which will cut short the time and expenditure.
A meeting of the officials of EIC was also convened under the Chairpersonship of Secretary (Fisheries), Smt. Nitika Pawar with the seafood exporters on the second day of their visit. The exporters were briefed about the role of EIC, requirements of importing countries and export certification during the meeting. The queries were raised by the exporters regarding the approval and export documentation replied satisfactorily .The Officials assured that they will depute a staff from EIC within 10 days to the Islands for assisting the exporters facilitate the EIC approval for their establishment and thus facilitate the export of Fish and Fishery products from A&N Islands. The Directorate of Fisheries will work as temporary office for the EIC till the completion of construction and setting up of new Desk office and Laboratory.
