Port Blair, Aug 24: Around 375 Naval NCC Cadets including girls, ANOs’ and Caretakers conducted Anti Tabacco & Anti Drug Rally. The rally was fledged off by the Member of Parliament, A& N Islands, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray from the parking ground of ASI, Port Blair. The MP Shri Ray encouraged the Naval NCC Cadets and lauded their participation in such social awareness activities. The rally passed through the crowded areas of Phongy Kyung, Mohanpura & Aberdeen Bazaar bringing awareness in general public by shouting slogans against the evils of chewing tobacco, smoking and drug abuse. They also carried different banners, boards and placards displaying slogans on anti tobacco and drug abuse.
While addressing the cadets the Commanding Officer, Cdr. John E Mathew stressed that it is very easy to adopt bad habits of using tobacco and drug abuse but it is very difficult to get rid of it. He urged them to guard against indulging into such habits and also be responsible for helping the society in getting rid of such social evils.
The rally ended with an oath taking ceremony which was led by Sub Lt. Dr. Satyam Setia of JNRM College, Port Blair, in which the cadets and others pledged that they will never get into the habit of consuming tobacco and drug abuse and will assist others in getting rid of such habits.
Later on the Commanding Officer thanked the traffic arrangements made by the A&N Police through ASI T.D. Rao and his team.
