Port Blair, August 4: As a part of Jal Shakti Abhiyan, launched by the Govt. of India, the Garacharma Range, South Andaman Forest Division in association with the Education Department has carried out a mass tree plantation drive in various Schools of South Andaman on 01.08.2019. The tree planting was done in the premises of Govt. Primary Schools at Old Bimblitan & Attampahad, Govt. Middle Schools at New Bimblitan & Mariamman Temple and in the premises of DEO, South Andaman’s office in which about 80 saplings of various fruit-bearing and ornamental trees were planted. The Teachers and Students of the Schools actively participated in the plantation drive and the students were made aware of the importance of trees in recharging groundwater level.
