Port Blair, Aug 04: On Saturday, 03rd August 2019, JNRM College’s Home Science Dept Final Year students did Exposure visit to SURABI NGO’ to interact with the Self Help Group member’s and their economic activities and to know the formation and function of NGO / Voluntary Organization.
First of all, all students gathered in a Don Bosco Multipurpose Hall, at SURABI premises. They were welcomed by SURABI staff and gave short information about SURABI by Rev. Fr. Savariappan Charles, SDB Director-SURABI. For developing the rural areas on health, education and skillful self employment for the rural youths the role of NGO is inevitable, he added. Rev. Fr. Savariappan Charles thanked Dr N Francis Xavier, Principal, JNRM for helping the students to get field exposure by arranging such kind of visit.
Later Dr.K.Venkatesan, HoD and Professor of Home Science, JNRM college gave a brief presentation on the objective of this extension field activity cum exposure visit. Mr.Ranjeet Kumar, Coordinator, SURABI NGO briefed the various social welfare activities of NGO and formation of SHGs.
After that the students interacted with the Members of Khusboo SHG, Brindaban, who received the Second prize for Best SHG. During the discussion they got to know the income generating activities of SHG, book keeping, bank linkage etc. Followed by the students were divided into three groups and assigned to study the activities of NGO and its functions with the assistance of SURABI NGO field coordinators Mrs.Sangeetha, Mrs.Saritha and Ms.Shanta.
Later the students of B.Sc Home Science JNRM and Dr.K.Venkatesan, HOD of Home Science presented saplings to SURABI NGO and same were planted by marking the afforestation under JAL SAKTI ABHYAN.
