Port Blair, July 31: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Island, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has suggested names of nine prominent people of these Islands for naming 21 unnamed islands of A & N Islands.
In a letter addressed to the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman Nicobar Islands, the Member of Parliament said that these nine people are part of the history of Andaman Nicobar islands and every grain of soil tells the story of sacrifice.
The Member of Parliament today could not attend the meeting of “A&N Islands State Name Authority” due to extension of budget session of Parliament upto 7th August. Hence via letter he suggested the names of all nine prominent Islanders.
Among first five names, he suggested names of Bishop John Richardson, nominated Member of Parliament from Nicobar Islands, Mr. Laxman Singh, nominated Member of Parliament, Andaman Nicobar Island, Mr. Lala Niranjan Lall, nominated Member of Parliament, Andaman Nicobar Islands, Mr. K R Ganesh, Elected Member of Parliament and Former Union Minister and Mr. Manoranjan Bhakta, Elected Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Island for this honour.
He said that all five MPs were most eminent celebrated and recognised personalities of the post independent era and have immensely contributed for the welfare of these Islands.
Member of Parliament suggested name of Rani Laxmi of Nancowry group of Islands as the six name apart from these six names, he also proposed the names of three youths of these Islands who attained Martyrdom while serving motherland during insurgency and militancy. The names are Martyr Capt. Asheem Bhatacharya, Martyr Dilli Rao and Martyr Ramesh Singh.
The MP said that naming three Islands on their names will remind all of us about their valour, love for the mother land.
