Port Blair, July 28: In a commendable move the Directorate of Shipping Services is exploring the possibilities of inviting private players to operate ferries between Bambooflat and Port Blair region, to ease the rush in this sector by bringing in participation of private parties.
“The private players have been asked about their opinion in this regard and their input will be forwarded to Administration, after which any decision will be taken. If this happens there will be more vessels to operate in this sector,” the Director(Shipping Services)In Charge, Mr. R. Veeriah told Andaman Sheekha.
Insiders told Andaman Sheekha that a meeting in this regard was organized recently in which private players had raised the point of increasing the fare by giving more facilities but the DSS officials opposed the point.
