
Port Blair, July 24: As part of Road Safety Awareness, Director General of Police, A&N Police Mr. Dependra Pathak, IPS inaugurated the revamped Children’s Traffic Park on 23rd July 2019. The inauguration programme was attended by Ms Shalini Singh, IPS, IGP (L&O), Mr Sanjay Kumar, IPS, IGP (ACU/HQ/Intl.), other Senior Officers, students, general public and media etc. At the outset, Mr Ravi Kumar Singh, IPS, Superintendent of Police (Traffic) welcomed the chief guest and addressed the gathering about the history and functioning of Children’s Traffic Park since 1994. During Tsunami of 2004, the park suffered heavy damages. The park was reconstructed and started functioning in the year 2005. Since then it has been continuously opened till Dec 2018 for the need of a facelift. Now, the park has been given a face lift and is renovated to make it more children friendly. New traffic signal lights, road signs and information hoardings have been installed across the park. In the facelift the other department DBRAIT, Transport, APWD & PBMC also contributed to their part.
In the year 2018, a was of 17029 school children were educated about the traffic rules and road safety in the Children Traffic Park. This park is being operated and maintained by the Traffic Unit. During the programme, Police Entertainment Team performed a skit on Road Safety which was widely appreciated by the gathering. The chief guest Mr Dependra Pathak, IPS, DGP, A&N Police addressed the general public about the importance of Road Safety. Later, the chief guest flagged off the bicycle ride in the Children Traffic Park.
