Port Blair, July 21: A solemn function was organized in JNRM to pay homage to Late Capt. Ashim Kr. Bhattacharjee, an alumnus of JNRM in commemoration of his martyrdom on 20th July 2000. Floral tributes were offered by Principal, faculties, students and invitees. Students, NCC Cadets staff members attended the function. A wall magazine on the life of Capt. Ashim Kr. Bhattacharjee was prepared by the students of Geography Deptt. on the occasion.
The 5th Capt.Ashim Kr. Bhattacharjee Memorial lecture on “Threats of suicide attack and retaliation” was held in the College Auditorium. Speaking on the occasion Principal.Dr.N.Francis Xavier, highlighted the need to remember the sacrifice of the martyrs and conduct commemorative functions.Ms. Pearl Devdas gave a comprehensive account of suicide attacks in History.Dr.K.Chanderdeep Singh gave in a powerpoint presentation on the theme “Aftermath of Pulwama: a perspective on retaliation”.He spoke about the various retaliatory measures adopted by the Govt. against Pakistan. Mr.Hari Narayan Arora narrated his personal experiences. Ms.Marlina, student of Geography paid tribute to the Martyr through a self-composed poem. Vote of thanks was given by Dr.S.K.Biswas, Associate Professor(Pol.Sc). The entire programme was coordinated by Dr.N.Kandimuthu.
