Port Blair, July 15: On the occasion of World Youth Skill Day, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra Andaman organized discussions, paintings and craft competitions for the trainees who are currently undergoing the training under various PMKVY schemes.
United Nations has declared 15th July every year as World Youth Skills Day. To mark the day, an exhibit entitled “Inspiring youth and improving perception for skills” was also organized, between 9-18 July 2019 at UN Headquarters in Vienna.
The goal is to achieve better socio-economic conditions for today’s youth as a means of addressing the challenges of unemployment and underemployment. Mr SumirJeet Narayan, Head PMKK Andaman welcomed the gathering and briefed the audience about the importance of the day & skill development initiatives. He also mentioned that there is raw and potential talent available in Andamans’, however, there’s a need to identify and polish them. The celebration was also graced by Mr Rashid Yusoof, the President of Nicobar Chamber of Commerce and a renowned social entrepreneur of the Islands as the guest of honour. He stated the quality of the training rendered by PMKK Andaman is at par with any institute in the mainland and the centre is designed and equipped with the state-of-art equipment. He commended various initiatives that PMKK team has been taking to up-skill the local youths and enhance their potential to be a better resource in future. While celebrating the day is important, much more needs to be done to enable young people to successfully transition into employment markets. He distributed the prizes to the winners under different categories. Ms Raziab Banu (CRM) and Mr NareshLaskar (Fitter) adjudged as the winners in team discussion event, whereas Lagnesh Kumar, Praveen Kumar, Varneekashree and Razia Banu bagged the prizes
