Port Blair, July 12: The Thoratang bridge, which collapsed last night at around 10.50 PM, nearly 10 after its re-launching, has triggered a massive outrage in social media, where people are demanding answers and also some strict action for this gross negligence.
Talking exclusively to Andaman Sheekha, the Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman, Mr. Awanish Kumar said that the District Administration of North and Middle Andaman will serve a show cause notice to the NHIDCL that why action should not be taken in this regard.
Mr. Awanish Kumar termed this development as ‘Urfortunate’ and said that as soon as he learnt about this news he spoke to NHIDCL authorities at Port Blair and directed them to make immediate ground enquiry and to place a report before him.
The DC has also directed the Assistant Commissioner, Rangat to reach the site and submit an observation report immediately.
The Deputy Commissioner added that the contractors of Construction Company and NHIDCL officers have already started from Port Blair to reach to the site to make an enquiry to know the reason behind this incident.
He added that as soon as he got this information he asked the police team of nearby police station to post policemen near the bridge to make sure no accidents take place because of the collapsed bridge.
Meanwhile it has been learnt that Pradhan of Swadesh Nagar, Mr. Jayanta Nag today held a meeting in his chamber with other PRI members and residents of the area and during the meeting it was decided that the Panchayat will not allow NHIDCL to construct the bridge again and if the Administration allows the NHIDCL to carry out repair work of the bridge again then the villagers of Swadesh Nagar will stage Dharna. The Pradhan demanded to construct a temporary route adjacent to the collapsed bridge for school children and light motor vehicles.
